Drain Drain flow away in Exeter
January '10

The dual purpose site at Sowton, Exeter is currently in use as an office and yard depot for storage.

There is a large surface area of concrete and on site are storage vessels that could contain oil as well as self bunded fuel tanks – but these alone are not adequate to protect the watercourse.

We are installing 3 new interceptors that requires the diversion of existing stormwater drainage. This is being done whilst the drainage is in use so the water is being over pumped before the interceptor is installed to maintain its function whilst temporarily diverting the flow.

Our safety record is paramount as there are the hazards of deep excavations, live drainage, a high water table and high water flow.. but we can be trusted to get the job done

Remedial Bunding - yes we can
January '10

ERH picked up the pieces after the existing contractor ceased trading and stepped in to help out a customer who we have an excellent relationship with.

We needed to prevent oil from existing transformers leaching into the local watercourses – our waterproof construction goes all around the transformer so if it should loose all of its oil, the full volume is able to be held within the transformer bund so protecting the environment.

Moat Farm
October '09

Bath & North East Somerset Council have once again engaged our services to construct a new reinforced concrete retaining wall for the water embankment at Moat Farm; not sure if it's because we're good with civil engineering or because we're good with historic buildings. The moat at Moat Farm to the west of Chew Valley Lake is thought to date back to the 14th century - the original warranty is sure to have run out now.

E R Hemmings Raise £4000 for BRACE
February 2010

The icing on the cake!

Local Alzheimer’s charity BRACE has received a £4,000 cheque from Yate firm E R Hemmings Building Ltd – in the form of a cake!

Not content with the traditional giant cheque for the presentation, E R Hemmings produced a cake with the cheque replicated on top.

David Jones, the Managing Director of E R Hemmings Building said, “We are delighted to have raised £4000 for such a worthy cause. The staff at E R Hemmings Building Ltd voted to support BRACE as their chosen charity for 2009, and went out of their way to raise as much money as possible.

“Activities included cake baking, casual clothes days, Easter egg raffle, ‘donate for your cuppa’, corporate golf day with our sister company ERH Communications Ltd, donation in lieu of corporate Christmas card, and raffle of all Christmas gifts received by the company.

“BRACE was a charity close to many hearts as some of our staff have been touched by the affects of Alzheimer’s disease and we also appreciate that this disease impacts the wider community, so we are keen to show our support on many levels. We also had many messages of encouragement from our customers and suppliers who also recognise the important work BRACE does in the South West area.”

Mark Poarch, Chief Executive of BRACE, said, “This is a wonderful achievement by the staff at Hemmings, and I would like to thank them for what they have done. The real cheque has been safely banked, of course, but the cake version was quickly polished off and greatly appreciated by all!

“What came across most when I met the Hemmings staff was how much they had enjoyed raising funds for us. I hope other local firms will follow their lead and help BRACE in the urgent fight against Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.”

August '09

Bristol’s famous Corn Exchange is set for a gentle makeover thanks to our contract win for external works and stone cleaning. This win is further testament to our growing reputation for consistently delivering high quality work when dealing with important historical buildings, particularly listed buildings.
